Livigno in brief
The extraordinary stretch of Livigno on the plain of S. Maria,
along the river Spöll - the only road through the valley -
is no coincidence, and it is connected to the long history of the
village. The wholy wooden houses are point to the South-East throughout
the whole valley. They were close to one another allowing in the
sun. In case of fire, they were designed not to carry over the flames
to the neighbouring wooden house. Principally, during the long winter
months there were lots of fires because of the fireplaces burning
all winter long. Another problem was extinguishing the fires during
the winter months, as the waters around Livigno were frozen.
In past years Livigno changed wholly - able to offer even more hospitality
to its guests from all over Europe. But refurbishing the village,
its old culture of the alpine region while adapting to modern requests,
associating the wonderful, breathtaking nature along with the beauty
of the valley.
