Livigno in brief
The village of Livigno is located in the province of Sondrio, the
most northern province of the Lombardy region. The valley, in which
Livigno is situated, is about 25 kilometres long and runs from the
Bernina to the Stelvio, from the south-eastern Passo della Forcola
(2.315 m) to the north-western Valico del Gallo (1.690 m), as the
heart of the Rätische Alps.
The basin of Livigno, thanks to its dimension and its location,
is unique in the Alps. Because it's situated on the northern part
of the Alps, it's not part of the Danube basin, but it's part of
the river Po basin. The river, running along the whole basin where
Livigno is situated, is called Spöl (or Aqua Granda). The Spöl
crosses the Swiss national park and runs into the Inn near Zernez
in Switzerland.
